Summer Camp Instructors

Doug Asquith Doug is a Senior at SCSU. He is an EI ED major with focus areas of Science and Social Studies. He is looking forward to student teaching starting in the fall. Doug has been an instructor for 8 years and before that was a GREAT camper.
Fun Fact about Doug: Outside of theater Doug plays football for SCSU and coaches Track and Field at St. John's Prep School.

Chris Brown has been the Associate Director of GREAT for 4 years. He has directed many shows and has also appeared in many! Chris loves teaching summer camp and looks forward to his week of Shakespeare with much anticipation!
Fun Fact for Chris I love green peppers!  

Elizabeth Burch is a recent SCSU graduate with a degree in English and she’s on the job hunt. Elizabeth has been seen both onstage and backstage at GREAT for ten years. Her favorite production was when she played Glinda in the 2007 production of The Wizard of Oz. She has been a GREAT Stage Manager since 2008. This will be Elizabeth’s first year of camp instruction after serving as a substitute.
Fun Fact: I lived in Germany for 3 years.

Chris Carpenter received a degree in Theatre Design and Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He has been an apprentice at the Santa Fe Opera in New Mexico, and joined the Great Theatre staff as the Technical Director after serving as a Scenic Carpenter/Welder at the Children's Theatre Company for 10 years. Chris is also working as the Technical Director for Mounds Park Academy's drama department in the Twin Cities.
Fun Fact:
Recently, Chris and his son met the Cat in the Hat at the Minnesota Zoo. It was an exciting moment for his son.

Nick Claseman Nick is a 2nd grade teacher in Willmar, MN. This will be Nick's second year as summer camp instructor. Nick has been involved both on and off the stage at GREAT for many years and was last seen in this season's production of Footloose!
Fun Fact for Nick: I recently got engaged!

Kathryn Fumie is a Sartell native who first fell in love with Shakespeare's work when she had the pleasure of playing Juliet at the Paramount, many moons ago. Kathryn is a graduate of Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts. Since moving to the Twin Cities, she has worked with 20% Theater Company, Theater Mu, the Flower Shop Project, and Acadia Repertory Theatre, Maine. GREAT patrons will recognize her from Alexander and the… Day.
Fun Fact: Kathryn is intensely afraid of copy machines.

Colin Jarrell just came on board with GREAT and has made himself an essential part of all productions. Having learned his craft at Northern Michigan University he moved to chicago where it was put to good use, But the fates found reason to send him to st.cloud. Art keeps him alive.
Fun Fact: I was born in Delaware and crab is my favorite food!

Sienna Kuhn was last seen in GREAT’s productions of High School Musical and Wizard of Oz. Sienna is going to be a senior at St. Bens and she is studying Art and Psychology. This will be Sienna’s fourth summer of camp instruction. 
Fun Fact: I love to run around in the trees and pretend I am a deer and make my own paths.

Kristen Mattick has been a voice teacher and choir director in the St. Cloud area for nearly thirteen years. She has been very active in music directing several musicals for the GREAT theatre including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Footloose, and most recently, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Her passion is singing, performing, and working with dedicated singers.
Fun Fact: Kristen is grateful for her DVR, so she can keep up with all of the Glee episodes and Dancing With The Stars/So You Think You Can Dance shows. 

Britta Joy Peterson has been working with GREAT Theatre since 2009 choreographing shows such as Disney's Aladdin, High School Musical 2, Funny Thing...Forum, Beauty and the Beast, The Producers and Patent Leather Shoes. Peterson has been teaching classes with GREAT for the past two years that enhance the dancing, partnering, and performing skills of the students. Currently Peterson is in her 2nd year of study to complete her MFA in Dance from Arizona State University. She is excited to be working on West Side Story this summer.
Fun Fact: My favorite breakfast is Ego waffles with peanut butter and syrup.

Megan Potter has been seen on stage with GREAT as Lily St. Regis in Annie and as Sharpay in High School Musical. Megan will be a senior at UMD, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Musical Theatre. She loves to come home and see the GREAT shows and all the new talent that's popping up in our community. This will be her first year as a camp instructor.
Fun Fact: I love theatre, music, dance, rearranging furniture, and can make a pretty cool train whistle sound! 

Jeff Sommerfeld was last seen on stage with G.R.E.A.T. in the most recent performance of Joseph as Pharaoh. Jeff teaches Language Arts and coaches the Speech Team at Apollo High School. This is Jeff’s first year as an instructor with G.R.E.A.T., and he’s excited about the opportunity.
Fun Fact: I am a full-fledged GLEEK and enjoy jamming out to the soundtrack while riding my bike on the Lake Wobegon Trail. I can't wait to meet all of you campers, and plan to have a lot of fun this summer!

Casey Schmoll has been involved with GREAT since 2001, performing onstage or helping behind the scenes in over 40 shows. Most recently seen as the Mouse in If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Casey recently graduated from St. Cloud State with a BS in Biomedical Sciences, Emphasis in Pre-Dentistry and Minor in Gerontology. He plans to apply to dental school this August. Casey has been a summer camp instructor for six years.
Fun fact: I recently went on a senior choir tour to South Africa in March. My favorite junk food is Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, character shapes!  

Hillary Vermillion Hillary teaches private voice lessons in Central MN at Central Minnesota Music School, St. Cloud State University, St. Francis Music School, and has been one of GREAT Theatre's Musical Directors since 2005. Her Musical Direction credits for GREAT include; Music Man, Annie, High School Musical, Madeline's Christmas and High School Musical 2. This will be Hillary's fifth year as a GREAT Summer Camp instructor.
Fun Fact for Hillary:
I also play the cello in the pit orchestra for many GREAT shows!

Nick Wolf is excited to teach his first year of Summer Camps. Nick has been involved with many GREAT shows, most recently seen in the world premiere musical of The Brother's Grimm- A Musical Adventure, Rumpelstiltskin and last summer’s Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? He is very excited to be a part of something that will instill the excitement and love for theatre at an early age.

What to Bring

Not sure what all you should bring with you to Camp or what to expect when you get there?

Use these tips and you'll be all set!

CHECK IN! Each day, our camp staff will check you in. At the end of each day, campers will check out at the front door. Please make sure your child checks in & out with a staff person!

CLOTHE! Campers should wear comfortable clothing they can move in and rubber-soled shoes. NO FLIP FLOPS, PLEASE!

BRING!

  • Campers participating in the Play In A Week (half-day) sessions will want to bring a snack as there will be a short snack break each day
  • Campers participating in any of the Full-Day (9am-4pm) camps should bring a lunch each day! NO PEANUT PRODUCTS PLEASE as many campers have allergies! **Please note that there will not be refrigeration or microwaves available at any of the locations!***

HYDRATE! Campers are encouraged to bring a water bottle to camp daily.

ATTITUDE! Campers MUST be ready for an awesome week--come ready to learn and have fun! NO CELL PHONES PLEASE! Instructors will have phones to make any necessary calls.

EAT! Campers should eat breakfast each day before coming to camp.

SLEEP! Campers NEED a good night's rest each night to provide them with the energy they'll need for camp.
