Hillary Vermillion plays Domina in “A Funny Thing Happend on the Way to the Forum.”  Domina is the mother of Hero and the wife of Senex.  She is a shrewish woman who controls everyone, including her husband.

Dr. Hillary Vermillion has provided the musical direction for many GREAT shows including; Annie, HSM, HSM2, Madeline’s Christmas and Music Man.  She is also a summer camp instructor.  This is however, Hillary’s first apperance on the GREAT stage.

What is your favorite part about rehearsal? Hillary:  My favorite things about rehearsals are getting to spend time with so many people who I have directed with or worked with in previous GREAT Theatre shows (and whom I adore and have the upmost respect for), and having an opportunity to perform after so many years directing music and playing in the pit orchestra. I also love working with such fantastic staff including the fabulous Bobbi Foote, Chris Brown, and Elizabeth Burch. They create a really exciting work environment where it is easy to explore our characters and try out blocking and choreography. We are having a blast in rehearsals (seriously, it is a laugh fest) and I can’t wait for our perfomances in July!

How are you most like your character? Hillary: I like playing Domina because she is loud and gets to order people around!  However, although she is very bossy and controlling she also loves her husband despite his flaws. So we get to see many sides of her character and that makes her very fulfilling to play.

Trivia: Domina is latin for mistress, or lady of the house.

Hillary (Domina) and Jon (Hysterium) rehearse the song “Dirty Old Man” in which Domina explains how her husband is a lying, lazy dirty old man…but she still loves him.
