We are seeking a dog to be our Toto in GREAT Theatre’s upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz performed at the Paramount Center for the Arts. The dog must be house-trained, comfortable being carried, at ease around large groups of people (including children), and unbothered by loud noises, bright lights, and sudden movements.

Toto – Dorothy’s dog (Small lap dog – 20 lbs or less)

  • Bark on command
  • Run out on stage off leash 
  • Be picked up and carried around
  • Run down stairs

Schedule

Rehearsals
1 to 2 rehearsals per week, based on availability beginning Oct. 14. (Rehearsals are typically Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6-9pm.)


Tech Week The dog and owner/guardian must be available to attend all technical rehearsals. They won’t necessarily be called the entire time of the rehearsal. Schedule:

  • Monday, November 18th – 5:30 – 10pm
  • Tuesday, November 19th – 5:30 – 10pm
  • Wednesday, November 20th – 5:30 – 10pm
  • Thursday, November 21st – 5:30 – 10pm

Performances The dog and owner/guardian must be available to attend all performances. 

  • Friday, November 22nd from 6:00p-10:00p (7:30p Performance)
  • Saturday, November 23rd from 12:30p-4:30p (2:00p Performance)
  • Saturday, November 23rd from 6:00p-10:00p (7:30p Performance)
  • Sunday, November 24th from 12:30p-4:30p (2:00p Performance)
  • Tuesday November 26th from 8:00a-11:30a (9:30a Student Matinee)
  • Tuesday November 26th from 11:00a-2:00p (12:00p Student Matinee)
  • Friday, November 29th from 6:00p-10:00p (7:30p ASL Performance)
  • Saturday, November 30th from 12:30p-4:30p (2:00p Performance)
  • Saturday, November 30th from 6:00p-10:00p (7:30p Performance)
  • Sunday, December 1st from 12:30p-4:30p (2:00p Performance)
  • Tuesday, December 3rd from 8:00a-11:30a (9:30a Student Matinee)
  • Tuesday, December 3rd from 11:00a-2:00p (12:00p Student Matinee)
  • Friday, December 6th from 6:00p-10:00p (7:30p Performance)
  • Saturday, December 7th from 12:30p-4:30p (2:00p Performance)

Casting Process

  1. Submit Form by Sept 27th. (contact info, dog description, why, photo, agree to schedule). Will be reviewed as they are received. 
  2. We’ll set up meet and greet with dog, actor, and director for September 28th for those that seem to be a good fit. 
  3. Rehearsals (schedule TBD) would begin mid October.
